Monday was the observance of President’s Day across the United States. It was also Children’s Day at the state Capitol. John Sattgast reports from Olympia.
SATTGAST: It’s an annual tradition for the State House of Representatives to honor children across the state of Washington. Children of legislators and staff sat at desks on the House floor as lawmakers spoke to House Resolution 4617.
State Representative Morgan Irwin, a father of three children, had some advice for the kids in the chamber…
IRWIN: “I want you all to know that each and every one of you is a mountain. Each and every one of you has the power of a hurricane and the speed of a lightning bolt. You’re amazing! Do not be boring! Be yourself! We do not have enough time in this world for boring. Go and spread your awesomeness and your wings and your ideas and move!”
SATTGAST: Enumclaw Republican Morgan Irwin.
The resolution was adopted, both by children who were given the honor of pressing the voting machine buttons, and by lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
John Sattgast, Olympia.
